I was looking to add to Rim’s fitness to improve his overall condition and endurance.
As he is turning 16 in June, I wanted a fitness solution that would not require extra pounding on his joints and feet. I went and watched a session. I was impressed enough to give it a try with Rim. As the weeks went on with Rim’s water treadmill sessions, I began to notice that he was more symmetrical. He had trouble in the past holding his left lead on training gallops at the track. After 6 water treadmill sessions, he was easily holding both leads. He had more energy the day after a session but it was productive rather than hot.
Wow! My daughter Paige and “Saint” had a fantastic lesson Saturday.
The beautiful weather helped and being in the outdoor was great. Thank you for letting her second coach come there as well. Judi (whom helped us find Saint) said (multiple times) she’s never seen Saint look so good especially him getting his back-end underneath himself and how in shape and relaxed he looked. We feel the water treadmill is definitely the reason (and the euro-walker when the weather is bad). We are so very grateful to be at NEC to have these options. He gets such amazing care there and we are so appreciative!!
Thank you again for all you do!
Thanks for helping us produce a better horse than we knew we had.
Stacey is a show jumper that came to me [horse owner] with an underdeveloped topline and sore back with little mobility which manifested in a jump that was lacking in bascule and power. The attentive and educated staff at NEC watched me ride, listened to my concerns, and have been able to create a program for Stacey that emphasized mobility and strength. With fewer than 10 fitness sessions under her belt, we’ve already been able to feel and see the differences.
I’m super excited to partner with and offer services in a facility of this caliber.
I’ve been both rider and trainer around the world and I have never seen this combination of rider- and horse-centric services available in one place. I’m super excited for the opportunity to conduct clinics at NEC and offer guidance and support to the owners.

It's important to note that this position is not a riding position. There is a separate team responsible for the daily care requirements of the horses, such as turnout, stall cleaning, shavings, providing hay nets, and ensuring water availability, among other tasks.
This position differs from the traditional veterinary technician role typically found in hospitals, clinics, or mobile units. Instead, it's a hybrid role that combines aspects of a licensed technician, fitness and rehabilitation technician, and patient manager. It requires continuous and consistent collaboration with our barn team to coordinate, schedule, and manage the horses in our facility.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with other team members to ensure the daily use and availability of horses for various aspects of the program.
- Providing support and assistance to on-site veterinarians.
- Conducting basic horse exams, including monitoring vital signs (TPR) and performing body checks.
- Administering necessary medical treatments and proficiently administering equine medications (IV, IM, PO, nebulized).
- Demonstrating proficiency in sedation (IV and IM), bandaging, and preparing/administering oral medications.
- Coordinating and managing the in-house quarantine program in conjunction with the Staff Veterinarian, Dr. Jay Joyce, for incoming or sick horses.
- Reviewing rehab and fitness records and implementing fitness and rehab plans.
- Managing and administering reconditioning and rehabilitation modalities.
- Operating the water treadmill and overseeing all aspects of our fitness programs.
- Supporting other team members in the fitness center and barn.
- Participating in ongoing learning and gaining experience through periodic work with a local ambulatory practice (closely affiliated with Total Equine Veterinary Associates).
- Effectively communicating through email, text, and in-person interactions with other members of the organization to meet the client's daily needs.
- Adapting flexibly to daily changes and challenges.
- And much more!
Qualifications:
*** Veterinary Technician Certification or Licensure (LVT/RVT/CVT). This is mandatory and necessary - please do not apply if not licensed.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience.
- Proficiency in horse handling and restraint techniques.
- Professional appearance.
- Availability for a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
- Strong physical fitness, capable of prolonged periods on your feet, extensive walking, adept in horse handling, and adaptable to various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
- Bachelor's degree (BS or BA).
- Certification in Equine Rehabilitation (CERP).
- Prior barn management experience.
- Experience in equine rehabilitation modalities, such as water treadmill, dry treadmill, exercise walker, laser therapy, vibration therapy, balance pads, ESWT, and Equinosis Q Lameness Locator.
- Experience with driving horses and/or sporthorse riding and showing.
- Proficiency in hitching and driving a bumper pull trailer for local distances of up to 50 miles.
We recognize and reward leadership and excellence with the following benefits:
- Competitive hourly rate of approximately $30/hour (DOE), equating to an annual salary of around $62,400.
- 6 paid holidays.
- 12 days of paid time off (PTO) annually.
- Opportunities for growth and advancement into management roles.
- Access to continuing education opportunities.
- Comprehensive medical and dental plans.
